The guests at the June 13th General Meeting were Tyler Pruitt
and Pat Locke from CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates).
CASA are volunteers are appointed to advocate for the safety and
well being of children who have been removed from their homes
due to parental abuse and neglect.
Also joining us were Lions Dale Strait and Don Laymond from the
Severn River Lions Club.
At the Dinner Meeting, Stacy Beard from SARC (Safety–
Awareness-Resource-Change) gave a presentation about the
24-hour per day facility. “We work to end domestic
violence, sexual violence, and stalking; to aid its victims and
to create a society free from abuse and fear.” There is also a
help line; counseling is available for adults and children;
they do community outreach, and they have a food pantry.
Ms. Beard stated that most non-profit organizations have had
funding cuts. Most of their organizations funding comes from
grants. She was asked ways to become involved. They include:
used cell phones, food, toiletries, diapers, and
families can also be adopted (to help).
This was also our club’s Turnover Meeting. PDG Ed Mello
did the installation of Officers. He announced that the CELC
has been in existence since 1947.
King Lion Elect Chuck Egender, Lion Sonia Hammen, and King
Lion Tom attended the District Turnover Meeting. CELC
received several awards: 100% Treasurer for King Lion
Elect Chuck Egender and 100 % Secretary for Lion Rose
Marie Vacaro. PDG Doug Patterson also received special
recognition for serving on the Bi-laws committee. The
club received an award in: Community Service, Public
Relations, Scrapbook, Web Page, Achievements, Activities
and Bulletin for the Lions Year 2010-2011.
